【Abstract】Open data is about information transparency, especially the data from government. Open data can help data analysts and users better understand the government for the creation of a better society. Therefore, the open data proponents have called for the governments to release non-confidential data as much as possible. Since 2009, the open data concept has gradually become a worldwide movement. In the foreseeable future, the open data movement will expand to enterprises and organizations holding data of public interest. Open data usually possesses good data quality since the data have been carefully surveyed, collected, and managed. New open data applications are typically characterized into three levels including 1) homogenous data sets integration; 2) heterogeneous data sets mash up; and 3) Semantic Web and inference. This talk is expected not only to be an introduction, but also to illustrate the creativity and possibility of open data applications.
