【Title】Decision-Making under Uncertainty: Real Options to the Rescue?
【Abstract】 A new trend in corporate planning is to exploit uncertainty by taking investment opportunities as real options. This options approach is to complement the conventional net present value criterion in evaluating risky investments. In this presentation, we take a broad look at the real options approach to various economic decision problems, laying out how it provides an immediate and important perspective on value creation in an uncertain world. Unlike financial options, real options analysis deals with investments in real assets, which is one of the primary interest areas in industrial engineering. For that reason, we believe that nay advancement in the real options decision framework will benefit the field of industrial engineering.
【About the Speaker 】Professor Chan S. Park is currently visiting the Department of Industrial Engineering at Tsinghua University. He is the Daniel and Josephine Breeden Professor of Industrial Engineering at Auburn University. His teaching and research interests are in the area of engineering economic decisions and financial engineering and published several textbooks on the subject matter. He received his PhD degree from Georgia Institute of Technology.
